Dear Friends,
One of the most puissant pastors and theologians in the 20th century.
His legacy is far from over. The voice of James Montgomery Boice and those
he influenced can be heard today in several ways.
The book, Give Praise to God: A Vision for Reforming Worship (P
& R Publishing), is a celebration of James Boices legacy. Its
18 contributors include Hughes Oliphint Old, Edmund P. Clowney, W. Robert
Godfrey, R. A. Mohler and Michael S. Horton. The books centers on Dr Boices
vision for Reformed worship. And... the royalties are dedicated to our
James M. Boice Chair of Practical Theology at the Seminary in Aix-en-Provence!
Speaking of which, The Rev. Frédéric Hammann has been named
as the facultys candidate for Professor of Practical Theology, the
man who will occupy the endowed Boice chair. Starting in September, he
would work half-time at the Seminary and finish his doctoral work for
the other half-time. He is 33 years old, married to Véronique,
a gifted music teacher. Together they have a son, the 1 year old Joachim.
He will have worked 7 years as pastor of a Reformed Church in Neuchâtel,
Switzerland, a place where the great reformer Guillaume Farel ministered
over four centuries before.
Please find enclosed our flyer for the trip
to Aix in May. As you can see, the Huguenot Fellowship is facilitating
this wonderful time in France, and will sponsor various side-trips and
celebrations, especially the Boice Lecture on Tuesday the 11th and the
Boice Chair ceremony on Saturday the 15th. Please consider joining us,
and let us know how we can make this trip practicable for you.
And special thanks in advance for your end-of-year contributions. We are
quite far from our goals for the Boice Chair, and we want to encourage
the Seminary as much as possible by next spring!
Very Truly Yours,
William Edgar, President
