A
Message from the President...
|

This
is William Edgar, president of the Huguenot Fellowship. Our full
title is, Huguenot Fellowship, Friends of the Reformed Seminary
in Aix-en-Provence. We have been in existence for nearly 25 years.
Our purpose is to raise consciousness about the Seminary, as well
as French-speaking evangelical works around the world. During
times such as these the training of leaders is crucial. The word
"Huguenot" is probably a reference to the Federated believers
in Switzerland and France. They grouped into small churches and
studies the Bible together. During the 16th century, many were
called to sacrifice their lives for the sake of biblical faith.
After promising beginnings, their numbers were vastly reduced
because of persecutions, including the St Bartholomew's Day Massacre
in 1572, and the more devastating hardships of the 18th century.
Because of this, sadly, the fate of evangelicals in France is
mixed. Though the church in France today is fragile, it not only
survives, but shows great strength in certain pockets. It is our
conviction that the greatest need is for leadership. Though today
the opposition is more cultural than physical, yet , as in those
terrible times of old, the same need exists. In addition to our
main purpose, supporting the Seminary in Aix, the Huguenot Fellowship
also gladly encourages l'Institut Farel in Montréal, the
School of Theology in Bangui, Central African Republic, and a
Christian Elementary School in Aix-en-Provence. Please join us
in this great venture, To God be the glory!
